Director

Tristan Hewat

Tristan is a Director of Firefolk Summer Camp and has been working with Camp Manitou since 2008.

He previously served as Waterfront Director at Camp Manitou and brings deep experience in aquatics programming, safety, and staff leadership.

A former high school teacher with a degree in education, he leads with a thoughtful, structured approach that blends clear routines with high-energy adventure and a warm, inclusive culture.

Tristan has spent the past decade focused on designing and delivering exceptional camp programs for luxury resorts and private clubs.

Tristan resides between Australia and the United States.

Zach

Zach is a trusted unit leader at Camp Manitou, known for steady leadership and a calm, capable presence with campers and staff.

He has helped lead our resort programs at Four Seasons Resort O'ahu, Four Seasons Resort Maui, and Four Seasons Resort Anguilla, and also supported the Firefolk pilot in Michigan in partnership with the Detroit Athletic Club. A certified lifeguard, Zach brings strong safety instincts and a great sense for group management. He is originally from Kansas City, Missouri.

Joe

Joe is a unit leader at Camp Manitou (boys camp in Maine) with strong experience guiding teams and keeping energy high across the day.

He has led camp programs in Australia and supported our Firefolk pilot in Michigan in partnership with the Detroit Athletic Club. A certified lifeguard and a rugby player, Joe brings a great mix of structure, humour, and athleticism to camp life. He is originally from Liverpool, United Kingdom.

Pete Hansen

Pete is a Director of Firefolk Summer Camp and a long-time Camp Manitou leader.

Originally from New Zealand, Pete first came to Manitou in 1999 as a waterski and wakeboard instructor. A true outdoorsman and avid surfer, he created Manitou’s Adventure Program and has led wilderness trips ranging from Mt. Katahdin climbs and multi-day sea kayaking to mountain biking in the White Mountains, surfing in Kennebunk, and island camping.

Pete has spent the past decade focused on designing and delivering exceptional camp programs for luxury resorts and private clubs.

Pete resides between Hawai‘i and Maine.

Sidd

Sidd is the kind of counselor every camp wants on their team, warm, dependable, and excellent with kids.

She was named Camp Manitou Counselor of the Year in 2025 (boys camp in Maine), a reflection of her impact on campers and her leadership among peers. Sidd has worked across our programs at Four Seasons Resort Hualalai and the Firefolk pilot in Michigan in partnership with the Detroit Athletic Club. She is a certified lifeguard and is originally from Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Maddie

Maddie is a creative, upbeat member of the Camp Manitou team who brings great energy to daily camp life.

She works with us at Camp Manitou (boys camp in Maine), has led camp programs in Australia, and supported the Firefolk pilot in Michigan in partnership with the Detroit Athletic Club. A certified lifeguard, Maddie is attentive, reliable, and great at helping campers feel included and engaged. She is originally from Sheffield, United Kingdom.

Partner, Advisor

Dave Schiff

Dave, a former Manitou camper and counselor, has owned and directed Camp Manitou since 1998.

He oversees Manitou’s daily programming and coordinates operations for the Central Maine Camp League. During the offseason, he oversees staff hiring and organizes Manitou’s many winter reunions. Prior to working full time at Manitou, he taught social studies in Tenafly, NJ. He was also the community’s boys varsity soccer coach.

Dave lives in New York City with wife Lisa and their children Shayna and Ari.

Dylan

Dylan leads the adventure program at Camp Manitou (boys camp in Maine), bringing an energetic, outdoors-first approach to every day.

With a background that fits the role perfectly, surfer, adventurous, and always keen to get kids moving, he helps shape the experiences that make camp feel bold and unforgettable. Dylan also worked with us during the Firefolk pilot in Michigan in partnership with the Detroit Athletic Club. He is a certified lifeguard and is originally from Plettenberg Bay, South Africa.

Andrew

Andrew is a high-energy counselor at Camp Manitou (boys camp in Maine) who brings enthusiasm and momentum to every activity.

He has worked across our programs at Four Seasons Resort O'ahu and supported the Firefolk pilot in Michigan in partnership with the Detroit Athletic Club. Andrew is a certified lifeguard and is originally from Kansas City, Missouri.

Jon Deren

Jon, a former Manitou camper and counselor, has owned and directed Camp Manitou since 1998. Known at camp as “JD,” he oversees all camp operations during the summer while coordinating Manitou’s one-of-a-kind winter program during the off-season. He was a collegiate skier at Tufts and received his MBA from Columbia University. Jon served on the Board of Directors for the American Camping Association – NY/NJ Section and is active on several ACA committees.

During the year, Jon lives in Westport, CT with his wife and his kids Tyler, Dylan, and Max.

Maura

Maura is a Pediatric Travel RN who brings deep medical experience and a calm, reassuring presence to our team.

When she is not working in hospitals, she supports the medical team at Camp Manitou (boys camp in Maine), helping ensure campers are safe, healthy, and well cared for throughout the season. Maura has also worked across our resort programs at Four Seasons Resort Hualalai, Four Seasons Resort Anguilla and The Boca Raton in Florida. She is also a ski coach and a certified lifeguard. Maura is originally from Plymouth, Massachusetts.

Jordyn

Jordyn leads the ropes and climbing program at Camp Manitou (boys camp in Maine), leading challenge-based experiences that help campers build confidence, trust, and resilience.

She has worked across our programs at Four Seasons Resort O'ahu, The Boca Raton in Florida, and Bishop’s Lodge (Auberge Collection), and also supported the Firefolk pilot in Michigan in partnership with the Detroit Athletic Club. A certified lifeguard, Jordyn brings strong facilitation skills and a steady, safety-first approach. She is originally from Pennsylvania.
