HISTORY

A legacy of friendship, growth and silliness.

For more than 75 years, Camp Manitou has been shaping summers with tradition, exploration, and a love for the outdoors, from our flagship camp in Maine to our seasonal adventure programs at luxury resorts and clubs.

LEGACY

The history of Camp Manitou

Founded in 1947 in Oakland, Maine, it has grown into one of the nation’s premier sleepaway camps, welcoming campers from across the U.S. and around the world.

Generations have spent their summers on the shores of East Pond, building friendships and confidence through a mix of outdoor adventure, athletics, creative arts, and leadership. With top-tier facilities and exceptional programming, Manitou’s mission is simple: to help each camper reach their full potential, instilling resilience, community, and memories that last a lifetime.
